| My #1 goal with both of our
game sites, Spike's Game Zone and
Cool Math Games
(Coolmath-Games.com),
is to create a safe place for kids of all ages to have
fun on the Internet.
First of all, our games are all
non-violent and are free of any language that would be
of concern to the most careful of parents and teachers.
When I'm reviewing a game for our sites, I personally
play the game all the way through to make sure that it's
safe - and, of course, cool and fun.
Some of our games are made
"in-house" by Coolmath but, some of our games are
created by outside game designers. Most of these
types of games that you'll find on the Web contain all
sorts of ads and external links to other game sites.
Unfortunately, most of these other game sites have games
that, in my opinon, kids shouldn't be playing.
(They usually have bad ads too.) Websites can get
games like this for free, so that's what most of them
do. What we do, instead, is to contact the game
designer to buy a special game license so that we can
run their cool games without any ads and external links.
This helps to ensure that your kids and students will
not be encouraged to wander off of our sites and end up
somewhere you don't want them.
We have also disabled the "high
score" functions on all our games to keep users from
being able to post screen names that would cause a
problem. We do not allow any automatic game
submissions - like many gaming sites do. So, there
is absolutely no user-generated content on any of our
websites.
As for our advertising, I
personally check each ad before it runs on our sites.
And I'm VERY picky. If an ad is even remotely
questionable, I won't run it. Yes, we do lose a
lot of income this way, but, I am certain that this pays
off in the long run with our having happy visitors who
keep coming back!
